A feather on the breath of God

On the feast day of St Hildegard, 17 September, we held an evening service at St Martha's that celebrated the life of this extraordinary woman born over 800 years ago.

Hildegard founded a monastery on the banks of the Rhine; she was a physician with a wide knowledge of medicinal herbs, wrote sublime music that is still performed today, published important theological treatises and painted intricate pictures of her unique religious vision.

Evening services are held at 4.30 on the third Sunday of each month: in summer, at St Martha's and in winter, at St Thomas'.
