Revd David Oakden begins his new role

Following his appointment as resident minister to Chilworth last year David was officially licenced to his new role on January 18th by the Archdeacon of Surrey the Venerable Paul Davies.

The service was held at St Thomas' and as well as David's family was well attended by parishioners, local clergy and community representatives.

Archdeacon Paul thanked David for answering God's call to step up to this leadership position and encouraged the congregation to support and care for David in this demanding new role.

The archdeacon also preached from the book of Lamentations Ch 3; relating the writer's struggles to our own pandemic experience and reminding all present that "because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail" (verse 22).

After the service we headed across the road to the village hall to celebrate this exciting new era in the parish with an excellent buffet laid on by the church social committee.
